LIN Dawei

Lin Dawei was born in 1997 in Huizhou, Guangdong Province. He received his BFA from the Oil Painting Department of Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts (XAFA) in 2019. In 2021, he joined the TPH (The Painting House) art collective. He earned his MFA from the Oil Painting Department of XAFA in 2022 and, in the same year, stayed on as a faculty member of the academy

Tai Sui I constructs a visual field that exists between nature, life, and symbolic systems through a fable-like imagery. The creatures depicted assume hybrid and contradictory forms: regular geometric patterns, heterogeneous growth structures, and animal bodies coexist, suggesting a tension between order and mutation, rationality and the unknown.

Lin employs the distinctive calm texture of tempera on wood and a layered painting technique to evoke a sense of suspended, enduring time. Using the motif of the “Tai Sui” as a guiding thread, the work references Chinese traditional culture, intertwining a longing for the continuity of life with reverence for supernatural forces.
