LIU Weinan

Liu Weinan was born 1994, Shaanxi. He graduated from the Department of Environmental Art and Architecture at Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts (XAFA) in 2019. In 2025, he earned his Master’s degree from the Oil Painting Department of XAFA, supervised by Professor Liang Hongli. He currently lives and works in Xi’an as a professional artist.

Inspired by Bob Dylan’s A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall, this series uses expansive narrative scales to examine human fragility and persistence against overwhelming power. The imagery of a solitary knight at the wasteland’s edge, contrasted with distant, silent chimneys and a restless sky, evokes a powerful “liminal” feeling. By employing somber palettes and an air of mystery, the artist captures the pre-storm tension, prompting viewers to reflect on the essence of survival through the lens of struggle and seeking.
