MA Aizhou

Ma Aizhou, Associate Professor and Master’s Supervisor at Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts (XAFA).

He graduated from the Affiliated High School of Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts in 1993, and from the Oil Painting Department of XAFA in 1997, after which he remained to teach at his alma mater. In 2010, he obtained a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from XAFA.

Professor Ma Aizhou’s artistic practice centers on the state of “flow” and the experience of live sketching, emphasizing immediate perception and bodily engagement during the creative process. Through emotionally charged colors and brushwork, the artist captures and conveys subtle flows of inner emotions.

At the formal and stylistic levels, his paintings unconsciously bridge Eastern and Western painting traditions, allowing different visual languages to naturally coexist and evolve within the composition. Ultimately, the works transform observed subjects into inner experiences, presenting a spiritual dimension that transcends the material world.
