MA Yuhang

Ma Yuhang studied in the Department of Environmental Art and Architecture at the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts (XAFA) from 2020 to 2024. Since 2025, she has been pursuing her Master’s degree in the Oil Painting Department of XAFA. Her work seeks to integrate architectural spatial logic with the emotional depth of painting, exploring the humanistic warmth of urban living spaces.

Bar II marks Ma’s transition from being a “designer” of space to a “perceiver” of it. Drawing on her background in architectural and environmental art and her acute grasp of spatial structure, she endows rational space here with flesh, warmth, and spirit. Through a palette of warm, profound amber tones, the lights, seating, and interwoven real and illusory background of the bar are reconfigured into a living field charged with temperature and presence.

Abandoning utilitarian dissection and analysis, the artist instead employs a sensuous painterly language to discover beauty in an ordinary corner. In this return from “mind” to “heart,” she invites the viewer to set aside everyday detachment and to enter into a pure, intimate encounter with space.
