SONG Tao

Song Tao was born in 1990 in Fengxiang, Shaanxi. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts (XAFA) in 2014 and his Master’s degree from the same institution in 2017. He currently lives and works in Xi’an as a professional artist.

Light Through the Forest After Rain  presents Song’s visual exploration of the boundary between the “true” and the “real.” Making full use of the fluidity of acrylic paint, he repeatedly washes the canvas with a spray bottle, allowing layers of color to overlap and erode, generating a distinctive, mottled texture through processes of accumulation and removal. Within the composition, light and shadow filter through the dense forest like fleeting glimmers, creating a hazy, dreamlike atmosphere.

This semi-abstract language is not a mere depiction of nature, but a materialization of momentary memory, capturing the dynamic process by which time continually reshapes and recalibrates perception.
