SUN Huijuan
Sun Huijuan, born in Yantai, Shandong, is a Master’s student at the Oil Painting Department of the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts. Her works have been exhibited provincially and municipally, with pieces collected by the Hunan Museum of Fine Arts. Her practice explore landscape-history narratives via mixed media, she pursues cross-temporal life perceptions.
Memories of Hexi series represents Sun’s profound re-visitation of the historical remnants along the Hexi Corridor. By constructing a “layering of time and space,” she distills the grand history of the Silk Road into a serene visual narrative. Amidst the boundless desolation of Yangguan, she explores the insignificance and existence of the individual between heaven and earth; within the interplay of light and shadow at the Western Thousand Buddha Caves, she captures the spiritual resonance between natural providence and religious art.
The artist does not merely depict crumbling walls and ruins, but rather the interweaving of “the eternal and the momentary.” Employing a technique where the literal and the conceptual coexist (Xu-Shi Xiang-Sheng), she completes a journey from the external wilderness to an internal psychological field, allowing the ancient memories of the Hexi Corridor to find new life within a contemporary, quiet pastoral poetry.
