ZHANG Yunfei

Zhang Yunfei, a graduate student at the Department of Oil Painting, Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts; he holds a BA in Animation from Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication.

Taking the “city” as a cognitive anchor, the work analyzes and re-materializes urban spatial structures through a process of secondary figuration. The misaligned and layered architectural forms in the composition function both as a visual condensation of the modern city’s functional networks and as metaphors for the psychological structures of isolation and separation they engender.

Elements such as a solitary boat and a gliding figure further project a sense of estrangement among subjects in contemporary society, revealing the inner logic and emotional impulses that give rise to this condition.
