TAN Siyuan
Tan Siyuan, an ethnic Manchu, was born in 1984 in Liaoning, China. He graduated with a BA degree from the Sculpture Department of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Art in Shenyang in 2015. He furthered his studies, and in 2018 he obtained his MFA degree from the Sculpture Department of Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia, USA. He currently lives and works in New York City.
Siyuan’s artistic creations draw inspiration from traditional Manchu handicrafts, particularly embroidery and paper-cutting. His artistic style incorporates elements of Cubism, through which he manipulates and reassembles the original forms of objects to reflect the continuous evolution of social structures. Additionally, his work delves into anthropological themes, engaging with societal and cultural concepts within the context of the Asian diaspora.
