WANG Lintong
Wang Lintong (b. 1984, Shaanxi Province, China) graduated with a BA and MA from the Xi’an Academy of Fine Art in 2006 and 2011, respectively. He has worked professionally as an artist since completing his MA and has exhibited extensively in China and internationally. Wang currently lives and works in Xi’an.
Wang’s figurative paintings are rendered in delicate shades of white, black, and gray, emphasizing subtlety and nuance. In his signature “white” paintings, layers of white oil paint are applied over darker imagery, gradually softening and transforming the original scene. This layering mirrors the way memory reshapes experience, blending fact and fiction, clarity and ambiguity. Drawing on personal recollections and observations of contemporary society, Wang embeds metaphor and narrative within each composition, inviting viewers to explore both visible details and hidden meanings.
Through this practice, Wang constructs intimate, contemplative spaces that encourage reflection on time, memory, and perception. His paintings capture fleeting moments while evoking emotional resonance, balancing clarity of imagery with the ineffable qualities of recollection. Recent solo exhibitions include Island of Memory (ART LABOR Gallery, Shanghai, 2023) and The Visible Thoughts (ART LABOR Gallery, Shanghai, 2022), alongside numerous group exhibitions across China, Europe, and the UK.
