Fang Yang

Fang Yang was born in Hubei, China in 1990. He received both his Bachelor’s degree (2015) and Master’s degree (2019) from the Sculpture Department of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts. Rooted in contemporary social and ecological contexts, Fang Yang’s practice focuses on observing the changing dynamics of daily life and the surrounding environment. Through sketching and photography, he collects material to create sculptures and installations using discarded and found objects from urban development. His concise yet evocative formal language transforms elements such as land, plants, and architecture into spiritual symbols that carry personal memories and collective experiences. Fang’s recent series Nearby Scenery, initiated in 2022, reflects on the human condition amidst rapid urbanization in China, exploring evolving relationships between people, society, and nature.
