Li Ying

Li Ying, born in 1984 in Nanjing and a graduate of Nanjing University of the Arts Printmaking Department (BFA 2007, MFA 2011), centers her practice on the concept of natural cycles and temporal order, employing traditional Chinese water-based woodblock printmaking with a contemporary and highly personal visual language. Inspired by delicate observations of nature and the inherent materials of water, wood, and paper, her work reinterprets traditional techniques while reflecting on time’s passage through the printmaking process. Li’s prints exude a warm, restrained elegance that invites close contemplation. She has held solo exhibitions at Jiangsu Art Museum, and Nanjing University of the Arts Museum, and participated in prominent group shows across China.
