Soft Spoken Deeply Seen

ART LABOR Gallery is pleased to present the summer group exhibition Soft Spoken Deeply Seen featuring recent works by eleven artists: Chen Jiao, Fang Yang, Hu Jingxuan, Li Tao, Li Tianqi, Li Ying, Liu Liu, Pan Jian, Wu Junyong, Yang Kai, and Zhou Jinhua. The exhibition will be on view from June 28th to August 31st, 2025.

Focusing on small-scale works, Soft Spoken Deeply Seen unfolds a diversity of artistic perspectives and deep individual inquiries within confined dimensions. Spanning four generations—from artists born in the 1970s through the 2000s—the exhibition brings together artists shaped by different cultural contexts and life experiences. Within the physical limitations of scale, they offer distinct yet resonant artistic responses.

Working with small scale pieces demands precision. It requires a delicate balance between form and content, a distillation of thoughts and feelings. In these compact spaces, artists observe the everyday, distill emotion, reflect on history, and engage with the present. The smaller the frame, the denser the ideas; the lighter the gesture, the deeper the weight.

These seemingly modest works reveal far more than their size suggests. From personal memory to collective perception, from figurative observation to abstract reflection, each piece functions as a self-contained universe. In their quiet intensity, these works open portals to broader worlds of thoughts, emotions, and connections.
